Fall Bridal Fair

We had a great bridal show this year. My mom (in the pic), my wife and I all worked the booth talking to brides, giving tickets for a chance to win a wedding, and answering questions. We had close to 160 entries! Wow!

Well, I would like to announce the 11 winners. Our boys help draw the 11 tickets. They had so much fun. Here is a list of the winning numbers: 390731, 390636, 390603, 390630, 390613, 390621, 390759, 390734, 390650, 390721, 390608.

Congrats! To all the winners!

We will be emailing all the winners Tuesday evening to make arrangements and lock in their dates.

If your number was not in the above list, no worries because all the brides that enter are winners. By putting your name in the bowl you can either get 40% off for 2011 wedding or 20% off 2012. I will be getting in contact with you as well. Remember the deadline to grab these discounts and retain my service is September 30, 2011. Wait, that is not all, if your date is already taken, you can still receive 20% off either a Bridal session or an Engagement. You still need to retain my service by 9/30/2011.

Again, I want to thank all the brides that visited our booth. I look forward to getting to know you and the groom from now to that special day.

Little Practice

Saturday evening I was able to get out and practice. With family being sick and several summer activities, it has been hard to squeeze it in. Although it was HOT, I really enjoyed getting some evening shots. In the summer time, 6pm – 9pm is the best lighting time and even when the sun has set, you still have some beautiful light.
The first shot I captured with my 50mm lens was more in town. My settings were IS0 320, f11 and shutter 1/1600. I could of lowered my ISO so that I didn’t have to have a fast shutter. Shooting with a prime lens like the 50mm, I really didn’t need to worry about hand shakes. Then I drove over to a baseball field (City of Colleges) to get some great images. On my next engagement session, I am going to suggest having the session at a baseball park, so fun!
I slap on my 70-200 lens and shot the third image at ISO 320, f11 and shutter 1/2000. Now I will say that if you don’t have a VR on a zoom lens, I would recommend shooting sunsets over 1/600 of a sec. for the shutter speed. This will help with the shakes, of course, using a tripod is the better option. But I left my behind so I pump it high.
My last shot looks like maybe it was 7:30 or 8pm. It is actually 8:30pm. Sun was down, storm clouds were rolling in, what a great opportunity for shooting with low shutter speed. The image looks well lit because of the the long shutter speed. I went back and grab my tripod and using the 50 mm, I shot at ISO 100, f22, and shutter at 13 seconds. You might ask why such a low ISO and high fstop? Well, I wanted to capture the light on the concrete and bricks of the building. See how the light shines on the bricks? Notice the circle light on the concrete. So, I needed a long exposure to achieve that. Also, notice the star on the lamp closes to me, I achieved that by having a small aperture. I could have lowered the aperture to f8 or 11 and still drag out the shutter around a second or two and got the exposure but I like the star affect. With such a small aperture setting and being on a tripod, why are the tree leaves blurry? Well, it was windy and since the shutter drag out for 13secs., it capture that movement. I think it adds just another touch to picture. Enjoy!

Daffodil Fun

Well, I had fun, my wife had fun, but I am not certain that the boys had fun. We don’t get to go to the field every year but Saturday was a beautiful day, and I remember seeing a message on Facebook that the area was open for the weekend. That is where Facebook shines. Anyway, after my meeting with a Bride, we all got in the car and headed out. It’s about a good 30 min drive from Conway, driving more south than going south-east into Little Rock. It was definitely crowded (later that weekend, I saw on twitter that they had several hundred visitors). It keeps growing. The sun was in great spot for pictures so we found a spot and snapped a few. I guess having the photographer in me, it can really ware on my boys. I try not to use them often but I think they are very photogenic (not biased at all :) . I really don’t want to bribe, threaten or whatever us parents do to capture our kids portrait. I actually was looking for another photographer I know, but didn’t see her. I got the boys and wife together, then the boys by themselves, and of course my wife. I handed her the camera, still in manual mode mind you, and said press her then here :) . I’d say she did pretty good getting my picture. I like it so much I am using it on my next round of business cards. Here are few images from this past weekend. Enjoy!

Isn’t she beautiful!

Some random shots of others out in the field.

Passing Storm

Last Thursday, Feb. 24th, we had a pretty good storm pass through. We had several tornado warnings that afternoon. I was able to get some images of the storm coming and leaving. I also grab a little video of the raging creek right outside work. Enjoy!

Time Lapse Fun

Can you believe it? Arkansas got more snow. Unfortunately I was sick that day. But I did set up the camera for some cool time lapse. I had the camera run for 8 hours capturing over 1,300 images. So, check out this 2 minute video of an 8 hour snow day. Enjoy!

Snow Fun Day

About a week and half ago, Arkansas got some nice snow.  We were hoping for it to snow on Sunday but alas, it did most of it on Monday morning.  So, I took an extra long lunch break and we got out there and had some fun.  Of course, while I am building the snow man, I am target practice for snow ball fight. :)   Below is a little time lapse of our adventure. Enjoy!

Hill Boys

After the session with the R boys, I had to take a couple of my boys. I can’t believe how much older they are getting. You know, we have had are ups and downs but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. They have been a gift and a blessing in my life. Psalm 127:3 says “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward”. Love you C & C!

Oh! And of course Merlin too!

Small Photo Booth

I setup a small photo booth for brides and friends at my booth during the bridal show. Over all the people I hand out a brochure to, little over a handful participated. I have to admit, I was still taking the photos. [Read more...]

Snowman Time Lapse Fun

We don’t get a lot of snow here in Central Arkansas. But this Monday we got about 5-8 inches. It has probably been 10+ years since we have had that much snow. Normally it is an inch or no snow and just ice. I got the camera out, set the timer, and let it run. I had take every 30secs at 600 times. Click the image below to view the movie.

Podcast?

Yes, podcast. I was invited over to my neighbor’s house to discuss a little bit about the iPad. The Cotton Club is great tech blog and now podcast where you can find excellent content with what is going on with software, hardware, tech companies and of course WordPress. You can listen to the podcast at his latest blog post.  Here is one pic I did for their Christmas cards. Cotton is great guy and you will have fun time listening to his podcast. Enjoy!
