Fall Bridal Fair

We had a great bridal show this year. My mom (in the pic), my wife and I all worked the booth talking to brides, giving tickets for a chance to win a wedding, and answering questions. We had close to 160 entries! Wow!

Well, I would like to announce the 11 winners. Our boys help draw the 11 tickets. They had so much fun. Here is a list of the winning numbers: 390731, 390636, 390603, 390630, 390613, 390621, 390759, 390734, 390650, 390721, 390608.

Congrats! To all the winners!

We will be emailing all the winners Tuesday evening to make arrangements and lock in their dates.

If your number was not in the above list, no worries because all the brides that enter are winners. By putting your name in the bowl you can either get 40% off for 2011 wedding or 20% off 2012. I will be getting in contact with you as well. Remember the deadline to grab these discounts and retain my service is September 30, 2011. Wait, that is not all, if your date is already taken, you can still receive 20% off either a Bridal session or an Engagement. You still need to retain my service by 9/30/2011.

Again, I want to thank all the brides that visited our booth. I look forward to getting to know you and the groom from now to that special day.

Little Practice

Saturday evening I was able to get out and practice. With family being sick and several summer activities, it has been hard to squeeze it in. Although it was HOT, I really enjoyed getting some evening shots. In the summer time, 6pm – 9pm is the best lighting time and even when the sun has set, you still have some beautiful light.
The first shot I captured with my 50mm lens was more in town. My settings were IS0 320, f11 and shutter 1/1600. I could of lowered my ISO so that I didn’t have to have a fast shutter. Shooting with a prime lens like the 50mm, I really didn’t need to worry about hand shakes. Then I drove over to a baseball field (City of Colleges) to get some great images. On my next engagement session, I am going to suggest having the session at a baseball park, so fun!
I slap on my 70-200 lens and shot the third image at ISO 320, f11 and shutter 1/2000. Now I will say that if you don’t have a VR on a zoom lens, I would recommend shooting sunsets over 1/600 of a sec. for the shutter speed. This will help with the shakes, of course, using a tripod is the better option. But I left my behind so I pump it high.
My last shot looks like maybe it was 7:30 or 8pm. It is actually 8:30pm. Sun was down, storm clouds were rolling in, what a great opportunity for shooting with low shutter speed. The image looks well lit because of the the long shutter speed. I went back and grab my tripod and using the 50 mm, I shot at ISO 100, f22, and shutter at 13 seconds. You might ask why such a low ISO and high fstop? Well, I wanted to capture the light on the concrete and bricks of the building. See how the light shines on the bricks? Notice the circle light on the concrete. So, I needed a long exposure to achieve that. Also, notice the star on the lamp closes to me, I achieved that by having a small aperture. I could have lowered the aperture to f8 or 11 and still drag out the shutter around a second or two and got the exposure but I like the star affect. With such a small aperture setting and being on a tripod, why are the tree leaves blurry? Well, it was windy and since the shutter drag out for 13secs., it capture that movement. I think it adds just another touch to picture. Enjoy!

It has been several months since we have seen Baby E.  I have several more to show.  Even though I haven’t been posting in a timely manner we still got together.  As I recall, it was a beautiful day to get outside and have some fun. Mom wanted to join in and we got some great mother/daughter images.  I can’t wait to catch up.  We have some fun photo sessions.  You just wait and see!

This morning I had to opportunity to photograph a 3 month old.  He is new to the blog and will be up some time in the near future.  You should have seen us trying to get him smiling.  I imagine he thought we were just plain crazy.  Ha!

So, If you just had a baby and you are looking for a photog, I can start shooting at 1 week of age.  Want to find out more, go over the contact page, fill it out and I will be in touch with you ASAP!

Fall Bridal Show – Our Booth

It was a great Bridal Show.  We met several brides and had 127 enter our contest. We are so excited for those that won and for all you that did not, don’t you worry, we have great offer that will be hard pass up (Check out the Home page to find out more info). This was our first time at the Little Rock show.  We have participated in the Conway show and Kiss the Bride Expo. Each time we do a show the better we get at branding Reflections by the Hill.  Figuring out your brand is very difficult.  Not only did we meet some wonderful, beautiful brides but we met some great vendors too.  I list out the vendors and their websites below. I want to thank my beautiful bride for helping me decorate and work the booth. I also want to thank my mom for taking care of the boys.

Young Deigns – Event Design & Production – www.youngdesigns-events.blogspot.com – Some awesome decorations!

Hobarts Printing and Design – www.hobartsprinting.com – Wow! They have some sweet cards!

Bates Events – www.bates-events.com – They were very nice to talk to.

Gala – www.imaginegala.com – I caught them tearing down wish I got some images.  Very nice booth.

Soho Photography – www.sommerholdenphotography.com – Yes, I added another photographer.  We photogs need to stick together ;) .

If you missed seeing these vendors, go check them out.

Picking a Wedding Photographer

During the Bridal Show, I was asked some great questions. But not everybody was willing to ask. I would say that the 90% I saw, heard my offer, signed up for the drawing, and then took my info. Of course I don’t think there is anything wrong with that; who has the time to really get to know a vendor. But it got me thinking about what are some things to think about or ask when looking for a photographer. So, here are some of my thoughts.

* How many weddings has the photographer done? Now this doesn’t mean the person is awesome but it does give a level of comfort. For myself you ask, I have done 5 weddings – 3 on my own and 2 as a second photographer.

* What is the photographer’s workflow before the wedding? In other words, once the photographer has you sign the contract, you might not see/hear from them until the day of. I believe there should be several meetings planned. Lots of things can change in 2, 4, 6 months or even a year.

* How many years have you been in business? I think this is a great question for any vendor. This allows you to get a feel for their experience. I have been in business for 2 years.

* You need to see all the images of a wedding. I can’t claim this idea, I got it from Melissa Jill and I like it. As photographers, we can show our best from a slide show. But seeing all the images from a wedding can give you a feel of what to expect for your images.

There are many more tips, and as I learn them I will share them :) . When it comes down to it, it is about trusting them/me to take the memories of your special day.

Super Stoked

You ask, “Why are you Super Stoked?”  Well, not only did I have great day at Barcamp Conway, not only is my new website and blog up and running (Thank you so much Cotton & Pleth), but I also received brochures and business cards for the upcoming Bridal Show this Sunday.  I was testing fate ordering so late but there were complications with the local establishments.  I really don’t blame them since ordering a week before the show isn’t that smart.  Anyway, I cannot wait!  If you haven’t gotten your ticket for the Bridal Show, no worries.  You can purchase them at the door.  I am looking forward to seeing all the brides at the show.  Check out http://www.arkansasbridalcommunity.com/ for all your bridal needs. See you soon!

Outtakes of me trying to be stoked at 11:45pm.

Bridal AD

aradreflections

This will be my second magazine AD.  I started off with Arkansas Bride last Christmas and the image above will be featured in the Fall/Winter 2010 issue (pg. 121).  If you are planning a wedding soon, check out the magazine.  It has a lot of great info and is packed full of excellent local vendors. The above image was taken at Trapnall Hall.  One of many beautiful venues for bridal sessions. Give me a call to schedule your bridal session today.

Speaking of Brides, if you are getting married soon, you need to pick up tickets and meet me at the AR Bridal show on the 22nd.  It will be going on from 12:30pm – 5:30pm.  You can find me at booth #90.  Below is the brochure I will be handing out during the show.  Plus, I will be doing a drawing!! You do not want to miss this drawing.

Practice Session

This weekend has been very busy. I have had two girl gymnastic shoots, a family session, and a toddler session right before the Super Bowl. On Saturday evening, since I had everything out, my youngest son ( Co ) help me do some practice sessions. Actually, I have been wanting to do more lessons from the Strobist site. But first, I work on getting the white background lighting the way I wanted. [Read more...]
